Lingo goes to the Language Show!
Lingo has just returned from Language Show Live, an international languages event held at the Olympia London between 16th-18th October. The show is Europe's biggest annual event for language enthusiasts, with 10,000 attendees visiting this year's 160 different exhibitor stands, free seminars and language workshops.
Lingo editors Dan McIntyre and Lesley Jeffries ran the magazine's stand, which was also a stand for Babelmagazine, along with Assistant Editor, Hazel Price. Lingo and Babel were in good company at the event, with representatives from the European Commission's Translating for Europe, Routes into Languages, the British Council, the International New York Times and many other language initiatives, showing the reach of languages across sectors.
Language Show Live was a great opportunity to network with language fanatics and discuss ideas for future issues of Lingo. The stand displayed posters of articles from previous issues including Dan McIntyre's piece on The Complete and Utter History of English (without the boring bits), as well as examples of popular regular features such as the Lingo Word Of The Issue. Attendees enjoyed how the stand demonstrated the range of linguistic topics covered in the magazine, as well as the eye-catching designs of Lingo’s designer, Bryn Abbott of kitzo.
The Lingo team met many subscribers, and also introduced the magazine to many who (can you believe it!) did not know about us previously. We also converted many readers into potential contributors, with plenty of fascinating articles to come from those we spoke to on the stand.
